At least 2 killed, 16,000 displaced in Philippines
台风致菲律宾2人死亡 万余人撤离
Slow-moving Typhoon Koppu has weakened after blowing ashore with fierce winds in the northeastern Philippines Sunday.
Local officials say at least two people died and about 16,000 villagers were displaced and power was knocked out in entire provinces.
Army troops and police were deployed to rescue residents trapped in flooded villages in the hard-hit province of Aurora.
While weather conditions had improved in some towns, officials warned that Koppu still packed a ferocity that could set off landslides and flash floods.
