So you had been in the United States and you had seen one of our shows and decided this is what you wanted to do or what?

Yes it's no secret that you've really inspired me.

Just like you I landed my first show when I was still a senior in college.

And in 1995 I went to the States on the business trip that was the first time I saw your show on TV.

And then I wanted to have a talk show like that but at that time I was just starting out in the TV industry.

So it was just a dream for me at that time.

But I was very patient.

In the year of 2001, I thought “well it was about time.”

So I approached my network, telling them I want to start my own show.

They gave me my show, so here I am today.

Tell me this: how does it work in in in China that you are able to talk about the kind of subjects that obviously I've been talking about now for 24 years and you've been talking about for the past seven years-- homosexuality, AIDS, divorce, all uh domestic violence, all the issues that really affect people's lives.

I, you know, from what we hear in the United States, those things are really taboo to discuss in your country, so how is it that you are allowed to do that on television with 140 million viewers?

You know, I've been working in this industry for so many years.

To me all the stories you, you just mentioned they're just about ordinary people who have extraordinary stories to share with the rest of us.

It's becoming more and more often because people really need to have a place to release themselves.

We Chinese people have become more and more expressive.
我们中国人变得越来越善于表达。
We used to be kind of shy and reserved but now we are more and more open-minded.
我们过去有点害羞和保守，但现在我们越来越开明了。
We’re more and more open.
