A senior Chinese diplomat has gone on record saying the Chinese government continues to hold the position that peaceful dialogue is the best way to solve territorial disputes with its neighbors. Ouyang Yujing, deputy director at the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs with the Chinese foreign ministry tells CRI the Chinese government is resolute in protecting this country's national interests. But at the same time, he says China's door is always open for talks and cooperation. "The islands disputes and the overlapping claim of territorial waters are only part of China's relations with the neighborhood, not the whole picture. They are historical issues." Ouyang Yujing says the Chinese government will maintain its commitment toward peaceful development as its guideline in negotiations. Russian President Vladimir Putin has met with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in Moscow. The two have issued the standard promise of further promoting bilateral ties. Putin says Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership maintains good momentum.
