Authorities in Yunnan say more than 2-thousand people are working to put out a forest fire in the province. The fire erupted Thursday afternoon in the Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, around 100-kilometers from the Yulong Snow Mountain, a famous scenic spot. Helicopters are also involved in the operation. No casualties have been reported. It is not yet clear how much of the forest area has been affected. The cause of the fire is under investigation. More than 6 thousand fires broke out over the past week across China, leaving 36 people dead and 11 injured. The fires caused property losses of 58 million yuan (9.2 million U.S. dollars) during the seven-day Spring Festival holiday according to a statement of the fire department of the Ministry of Public Security . In accordance with an action plan of the ministry, 170,000 firefighters were placed on guard nationwide to ensure a safe festive period for the traditional Chinese Lunar New Year.
