Chinese leader Xi Jinping is calling for addressing the root causes leading to the tensions over the Korean Peninsula. The CPC Chief met with Kim Moo-sung, special envoy of South Korea president-elect Park Geun-hye, and says maintaining peace and stability is in both Chinese and South Korean interests. He also says China wants the six-party talks on denuclearization to resume. The UN Security Council earlier adopted a resolution condemning the North Korea's satellite launch back in December. Meanwhile North Korea is backing away on a 8-year promise to eventually denuclearize the Korean Peninsula. Pyongyang is also threatening to take "physical action" to strengthen its nuclear deterrence. The announcement comes just hours after the UN Security Council adopted a resolution condemning North Korea's satellite launch in December. The 15 members of the UN Security Council unanimously approved the Resolution, which requires North Korea not to conduct any further ballistic missile or nuclear tests.
