Chinese leader Xi Jinping is calling for addressing the root causes leading to the tensions over the Korean Peninsula.
The CPC Chief met with Kim Moo-sung, special envoy of South Korea president-elect Park Geun-hye, and says maintaining peace and stability is in both Chinese and South Korean interests. He also says China wants the six-party talks on denuclearization to resume. The UN Security Council earlier adopted a resolution condemning the North Korea's satellite launch back in December. Meanwhile North Korea is backing away on a 8-year promise to eventually denuclearize the Korean Peninsula. Pyongyang is also threatening to take "physical action" to strengthen its nuclear deterrence.
