A trial operation has began along the Beijing-Zhengzhou section of the high-speed rail route from Beijing to Guangzhou. According to the Ministry of Railways, the operation will test facilities, train staff and enhance the crew's emergency response capabilities. The Wuhan-Guangzhou part of the high-speed route has been operating since 2009. The Zhengzhou-Wuhan section began operating in September this year. The 2,200-km railway is set to open next month, which is expected to cut the journey time to eight hours from the current 22. The northwestern Chinese city of Lanzhou, one of China's most polluted, is planning to publish PM 2.5 readings in December. Lanzhou is among the first batch of 74-Chinese cities to publish daily reports on the pollution readings by the end of this year. Coastal cities like Shanghai, Guangzhou and Nanjing have also launched the same readings.
