China in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival as families gather for reunion

Today, China celebrates the Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month, when the moon is supposed to be at its fullest and roundest.

Mid-Autumn Festival is considered the second most important traditional Chinese festival, after the Spring Festival. The Chinese people mark the occasion by getting together with their families. Eating moon cakes and admiring the full moon are part of the tradition because that symbolizes reunion.

Experts say 8pm to 9pm today is the best time to admire the moon. The Turret of the Summer Palace in Beijing, peak of Huangshan Mountain in the eastern province of Anhui, and Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong are few ideal spots to gaze at the skies.
