Chinese Ministry of Water Resources has said that Beijing can ensure a sufficient water supply for the Olympic Games, with all water coming from the capital itself, and no deep underground water being involved.
Vice Minister of Water Resources Hu Siyi made the remarks on Wednesday at a press conference.
"The water supplies in Beijing can be sufficient during the games. The hosting of the Olympics does not bring any burden on the supplies of water in Beijing."
Hu Siyi said that the deep underground water was important strategic storage and was generally not to be exploited. The Olympic water first comes from surface water, and then from reservoirs.
Meanwhile, the Vice Minister said that Beijing had adopted a series of measures to guarantee Olympic water storage, such as strong official support for water saving.
