The next Summer Olympic Games will be held in London in 2012. In a recent interview with CRI, Colin Moynihan, chairman of the British Olympic Association, said that Beijing has set a new example for London.
As a former sailor, Moynihan won a silver medal with help from his teammates in the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games. Since that time, he has witnessed many memorable moments in Olympic history. He uses the word "outstanding" to describe the preparations for the Beijing Games.
"The quality of the facilities is magnificent. They are all inspiring, and are the best facilities I have ever seen. I congratulate the organizing committee for preparing such wonderful games."
Moynihan says that holding the Olympic Games will have far-reaching significance for China.
"The quality of the facilities will leave a great legacy for Beijing... You can see that in the torch relay, tens of thousands of people are always lining the streets in China."
But he confesses Beijing's organization has increased the pressure on London.
"The challenges are very clear to us. The facilities are magnificent. The focus on preparation is very impressive and the attention to detail that the Chinese have done for the games, it is challenging for us. We learn a lot. We have over 100 people here for London 2012 looking exactly at what's happening, from catering to security, to athletes' centers, to facility management and to event programs. So we can learn a great deal, and we will learn a great deal from Beijing. "
Even with the increased pressure, Moynihan is still confident that London will be able to hold a standout Olympic Games just a few short years.
