With more than 2,000 alligators, Insta-Gator Ranch—the only hatchery in thestate open to the public—is working to preserve Louisiana wetlands and theAmerican alligator. Visitors can watch guides safely catch an alligator;observe and feed congregations from a protected walkway; and play with babyalligators in the touch pool. Bring your camera, as photo ops with the scalyyoungsters or their 500-pound adult relatives abound. During the month ofAugust, you can actually hold an egg as the baby hatches.
