"There really is one," confirmed Deep Thought.	“真的有一个。”深思肯定地回答说。

Both of the men had been trained for this moment, their lives had been a preparation for it, they had been selected at birth as those who would witness the answer, but even so they found themselves gasping and squirming like excited children.	这两个人所受的训练就是为了这一刻，他们毕生都在为这一时刻作准备，他们从出生的那一天起就被选为见证这个答案的人。但即使是这样，他们仍然发觉自己喘着粗气，局促不安地扭动着身体，活像兴奋的孩一般。

"I am."	“我准备好了。”
"Now?"	“现在？”
"Now," said Deep Thought.	“现在。”深思说。
They both licked their dry lips.	两人同时舔了舔干燥的嘴唇。
"Though I don't think," added Deep Thought, "that you're going to like it."	“虽然我并不认为，”深思补充说，“你们会喜欢它。”
"Doesn't matter!" said Phouchg. "We must know it! Now!"	“没有关系！”佛格说，“我们必须知道答案！就是现在！”
"Now?" inquired Deep Thought.	“现在？”深思又问了一句。
"Yes! Now ..."	“是的！现在……”
"Alright," said the computer and settled into silence again. The two men fidgeted. The tension was unbearable.	“那好吧。”电脑说，然后再次陷入了沉默。两人变得坐立不安，紧张的气氛简直让人快要无法忍受了。
"You're really not going to like it," observed Deep Thought.	“你们真的不会喜欢它的。”深思再次指出。
"Tell us!"	“告诉我们！”
"Alright," said Deep Thought. "The Answer to the Great Question ..."	“那好吧，”深思说，“那伟大问题的答案……”
"Yes ...!"	“是的！”
"Of Life, the Universe and Everything ..." said Deep Thought.	“关于生命、宇宙以及一切……”深思继续说。
"Yes ...!"	“是的！”
"Is ..." said Deep Thought, and paused.	“是……”深思说，然后顿了一下。
"Yes ...!"	“是的！……”
"Is ..."	“是……”
"Yes ...!!!...?"	“是的！！！……？”
"Forty-two," said Deep Thought, with infinite majesty and calm.	“42。”深思说，语调中带着无限的威严和平静。
