Leaders from 18 countries meet in Kuala Lumpur

The East Asia Summit, also known as EAS, opens Sunday following the ASEAN summit in the Malaysian capital. ASEAN leaders are meeting their counterparts from the US, China, South Korea, Japan and other countries.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang is among the leaders attending this year's event. Earlier, Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin said China is calling on East Asian nations to accelerate their economic integration and safeguard regional stability as the economically converging region seeks closer ties.
