How can I improve my English listening skill?

Dear Nga,

亲爱的Nga,

Last time, we talked about face-to-face listening and listening to get information.

上周,我们讲了面对面听力和获取信息的听力。

This week, we talk about listening to lectures or speeches.

本周,我们讨论听讲座或演讲。

At many universities, for example, teachers talk for long periods of time in English.

例如,在许多大学里,老师们用英语长时间交谈。

You also may listen to recordings in English.

你也可以听英语录音。

Here are some things you can try before, during and after this kind of intensive listening.

以下是一些你可以在这种强化听力之前、之中和之后尝试的方法。

Imagine that you will hear a lecture about rainforests.

想象一下,你会听到一个关于雨林的讲座。

Before you listen, think of what you already know.

在你听之前,想想你已经知道了什么。

What kind of plants, animals or people live in rainforests?

什么样的植物、动物或人类生活在热带雨林中?

Are they in danger?

他们有危险吗?

Are there any related English words that you know?

你知道什么相关的英语单词吗?

These questions can help you get ready to listen.

这些问题可以帮助你做好听力的准备。

As you listen, keep your brain active by asking yourself other questions like:

当你在听的时候,通过问自己其他的问题来保持你的大脑活跃,比如:

"Am I following the main points? What do I need to remember?"

“我是否理解了要点?我需要记住什么?“

Be sure to take notes or record the lecture so you can listen later.

一定要记笔记或把讲座录下来,这样你以后才能听。

You will probably hear new words you do not understand. Write them down.

你可能会听到你不懂的生词。把它们写下来。

Then listen more carefully -- does the speaker explain them?

然后仔细听——说话者是否解释了它们?

Is there a picture in the classroom or in your textbook that shows their meanings?

教室里或课本里有没有一幅图画能说明它们的意思?

If not, use the other words around them to guess.

如果不是,用他们周围的其他词来猜测。

You can find the definitions later.

Afterward, think about how much you understood.

之后,想想你明白了多少。

If you can, ask your teacher a question about whatever you did not understand.

React to the lecture with your own ideas, even if you only do this in your notes or with a classmate.

用你自己的想法对讲座做出反应,即使你只是在你的笔记里或是告诉同学。

Your reaction could be: "I think people should work harder to protect rainforests."

你的反应可能是:“我认为人们应该更加努力地保护雨林。”

You should listen to VOA news, our American Stories series, songs, movies, and other things in English every day.

你应该听美国之音新闻, 我们的美国故事系列,歌曲,电影, 每天都用英语做其他的事情。

In time, you will understand better and better.

总有一天,你会越来越了解的。
