Have you ever been asked to give an answer or opinion about something when you didn't have much information about it?
你是否曾经在对某件事没有太多了解的情况下，被问及关于它的答案或者建议？
We call this a "guess".
我们称之为“猜测”。
People make guesses about a lot of things, like the cost or amount of something, what someone did or might do and the cause or effect of something.
人们会对很多事情进行猜测，比如某物的成本或数量，某人做了什么或者可能做什么，某事的原因和结果。
There are many phrases for expressing guesses in English.
英语中有很多用来表达猜测的短语。
Let's look at two of them today.
今天我们来看看其中的两个。
Off the top of my head.
我现在立马能想到的是。
And it's difficult to say.
这很难说。
Imagine you ask an auto technician to estimate the cost of car parts.
想象这种情况，你让汽车技术人员估计汽车零件的成本。
This is what he says.
他这么说。
Off the top of my head, it will be around 800 dollars.
我现在立马给个答案的话，大概是800美元。
When we use this phrase, we are making a guess or estimate without thinking about it much before we answer.
当我们使用这个短语的时候，我们在回答之前并没有仔细思考就给出了猜测或估计。
Instead, the guess is coming from our memory.
相反地，我们是通过记忆给出了猜测。
Next, we turn to the phrase: It's difficult to say.
接下来，我们看这个短语：这很难说。
We use it to express that an outcome is not easy to predict.
我们用它来表达结果是很难预测的。
For example, say you are watching a sports game and someone asked you to predict which team will win.
例如，你在看一场体育比赛，有人问你预测哪对会赢。
It's difficult to say.
这很难说。
Both teams have had a strong season this year.
今天这两个队表现得都很好。
There are two other common ways of wording this phrase:
这个短语还有另外两种常见的说法:
"It's tough to say." and "It's hard to say."
It's tough to say.和It's hard to say.
