6.Year cake.
6.年糕
This is nian gao, a sweet and sticky cake made of glutinous rice flour.
这是nian gao，一种用糯米粉做成的又甜又粘的蛋糕。
Nian gao means year cake, but it also sounds exactly the same as 'nian gao' which is the word 'year' followed by the word 'tall'.
nian gao就是年糕，但它的发音和“年”字后面加一个“高”字一样。
So may each new year be taller for you.
祝你在新的一年里高升。
May you reach new heights: a promotion, a raise, more cake! More cake? I don't mind at all!
祝你到达新的高度：不管是升职，还是加薪，还是吃到更多蛋糕！更多蛋糕？我可不介意！
7.Sweet rice dumplings

New Year is all about family reunions.
春节是全家团聚的日子。
For dessert we eat tang yuan and we say 'tuan tuan yuan yuan'.
我们吃的甜点就是汤圆，意味着‘团团圆圆’。
'Tuan yuan' means reunion and 'yuan' means round.
“Tuan yuan”的意思是团圆，“yuan”的意思是圆。
So the aim is to have the whole family around the table together and the rice ball is round like the table.
指的就是全家人围坐在桌子旁，而汤圆就像桌子一样圆。
It's pun for the whole family! Where's my family?
这是全家的双关语！我的家人在哪里？
8.The 'togetherness' box

This is a quan he. It's a collection of snacks -- mostly sweets for visitors or for me. Mostly for me.
这是一个全盒。也就是整盒的各种小吃--主要是为串门的亲戚和我准备的糖果。主要是为我准备的。
These are melon seeds or 'gua zi'. It sounds a lot like the saying 'nian sheng gui zi' which means 'to give birth to sons'.
这些是“瓜子”。听起来寓意就是“年生贵子”，意思是“生儿子”。
What about daughters? I'm a daughter. Mum, what about daughters?!
那女儿呢？我是个女儿啊。妈妈，那女儿呢？
These are lotus seeds or 'lian zi'. Again, it sounds like that whole 'give birth to sons' thing. Or daughters!
这些是“莲子”。同样，听起来寓意就是“生儿子”。或女儿！
These are lotus roots. They're called 'lian ou' which sounds like the word for abundance.
这些是莲藕。读作“lian ou”，听起来寓意是“富足”。
And these are white rabbit lollies, because compulsory.
这些是大白兔奶糖，是春节全盒的必备品。
Of course there are many ways to celebrate the New Year with food.
当然了，庆祝新春佳节的方式有很多。
