European countries have reported record coronavirus infections as the World Health Organization warned that the combination of the Omicron and Delta variance was leading to a tsunami of cases.The head of the WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was speaking at a press conference in Geneva from where Imogen Foulkes reports.As the Omicron variant takes hold, the WHO is worried about two things, complacency and what Dr Tedros called narrow nationalism.Across Europe, infection rates are breaking all records.There's a rush to provide booster shots.The WHO believes this could deprive poorer countries where millions are still waiting for their first jab.But, where vaccine coverage is high, there's also a growing view that the new variant is mild.This, the WHO warns, is dangerous complacency.The United States is now recording its highest daily Covid infection since the pandemic started, an average of 265,000 per day in the past week.But the Centers for Disease Control says hospitalizations and deaths remain comparatively low.It's been announced that the leaders of the United States and Russia will have their second phone call in less than a month on Thursday.Tensions remain high over the buildup of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine.Grant Ferrett reports.The White House said Vladimir Putin had requested a talk to Joe Biden.
