The vote was held on 10th April 1938 and both Austrians and Germans were asked if they agreed with the unification of the two countries and with Adolf Hitler.Several hundred thousand Austrians, mostly Jews and the Nazis'political opponents, were denied the right to vote. And for those who did vote, there was a hint on the ballot paper of what their choice should be,with the space for "Yes" much bigger than the space for "No".More than 99% of Austrians voted for Hitler.Hitler emerged from his Austrian adventure stronger than he had ever been. And now he wanted to take over Czechoslovakia.General Ludwig Beck wrote a warning memo and read it in May 1938 to the head of the army.
