A Guangdong Province program aimed at upgrading the manufacturing hub's industries is set to move more robots on to the assembly line.Last month, the government said that companies involved in the production of automobiles, motorcycles, home appliances, electronics, construction materials and clothing will receive subsidies to purchase robots over the next three years. An official with the province's economic and information commission said the government program will cover 10 to 20 percent of a company's industrial robotics upgrades.Steered by worker shortages and rising wages, a number of major consumer goods makers in China have started to embrace the use of robotics to cut production costs.Guangdong's cities have also been encouraging a drive toward automation on factory floors. In October, the Foshan municipal government started a program to offer certain robotics manufacturers up to 5 million yuan in subsidies.Companies purchasing robots can receive up to 200,000 yuan in subsidies. The manufacturing center of Dongguan in Guangdong Province has also set aside 200 million yuan in subsidies to support companies in making automation purchases. For Caixin Online, this is Diana Bates.
