From NPR News in Washington, I'm Nora Raum.Violence erupted at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp in Cuba today.Military officials say guards were moving some inmates from a communal section into a solitary cellwhen the inmates resisted using improvise weapons.The guards fired a warning shoot to put down the disturbance.Officials say there were not major injuries.They say the guards acted against the detaineesthat have been on a hunger strikes for more than two monthsand it covered windows and surveillance cameras to block the guards views.The mother of a 6-year-old killed in a Connecticut school shooting last yearstepped in for President Obama during a weekly address.NPR's Alison Keyes reportsshe made a personal plea for lawmakers to address gun violence.The anguish in the voice of Francine Wheele was tangible."Our younger son Ben, age six, was murdered in his first grade classroom."She says since the 26 died at Sandy Hook Elementary school,thousands of other Americans died of gun violence.She pleads the Senate to take actions."Please, help us do something, before our tragedy becomes your tragedy."In the Republican weekly address,Indianan Werry Jack attacks the president's budget plan,calling its tax increase proposal a blank check for more spending and more debt.Alison Keyes, NPR News, Washington.Secretary of State John Kerry is in Beijing where he met with Chinese leaders.A major topic is the rising tensions on the Korean peninsula because of war threat by North Korea.The US wants China to pressure Pyongyang to scale back its rhetoric.
