The top Chinese legislature is also discussing amendments to seven laws that would be changed to fit the amended Criminal Procedure Law.The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress is deliberating a draft resolutioncovering revisions to 18 areas of unconformity in the Prison Law, Lawyers Law and other related bills with the Criminal Procedure Law.That law was amended in March and will take effect from January.The draft revision clarifies lawyers' rights in litigations, guaranteeing their right to meet suspects and defendants.New figures now suggest the number of senior citizens in China is expected to reach 35-percent of the population by 2053.A joint UN-China conference held in Beijing has been told the number of Chinese people over the age of 60 is expected to reach 487-million in the next 40-years.There are currently 185 million senior citizens in China.At the same time, the number of so-called "empty nesters," or senior citizens who live without the assistance of their children,is expected to reach 51-million in the next 3-years.
