Beijing has started a campaign to check and remove fire risks ahead of a key political meeting.The campaign has been launched as part of security maneuvers for the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,slated to start November 8th.Checks will cover venues serving the Congress, the capital's central political area, hotels, hospitals, schools, cinemas and Internet cafes.A new CPC leadership is expected to be elected during the conference,which will also set a direction for the country's development over the next five to ten years.China's State Council has approved plans for nuclear safety and prevention of radioactive contamination.Investment in the projects is expected to reach 80 billion yuan by 2015.The move is being seen as a revival of China's nuclear power industry, which had been halted since the Japanese nuclear accident last year.
