1. 翻译第一段第一句时，注意“举行了……比赛”可翻译为被动结构，需要用 be held 结构表示“举行”；此外，“一年一度”英译时用 anual 表示即可；“外国人汉语演讲比赛”切不可按照中文语序直接翻译，需要先译 Chinese speech contest，再译 for foreigners。
2. 翻译第一段第二句时，注意该句的主语和前一句的主语都是“比赛”，故可以将其翻译为 which 引导的非限制性定语从句。另外，“证明是”译为 proved to be；“文化交流”译为 cultural communication；“……的好方法”译为 a good way of...。
3. 翻译第一段第三句时，注意“更好地了解中国的机会”中“机会”为中心词，其他部分为定语，故翻译为 a good opportunity to learn better about China。
4. 翻译第二段时，注意该句中的定语成分较多，因此需要先找到句子主干，即“选手聚集在湖南省省会参加了半决赛和决赛”。“来自 87 个国家共计 126 位选手”中，“共计”译为 a total of；“来自 87 个国家”译为 from 87 countries，作为定语放在 contestants 之后。“参加了半决赛和决赛”译为 took part in .both the semi-final and the final。。
5. 翻译第三段第二句时，“选手们还有机会……”的译法很多。一种是直接用 contestants 作主语，谓语用 also get/have chances/opportunities to...。另一种是用 there be 句型来表达，即 there are also chances/ opportunities for constants to...。“著名景点和历史名胜”可译为 the famous scenic spots and historical resorts。

1.本文前两句是对潍坊市和风筝的简单介绍，时态应用一般现在时。后三句讲述有关风筝的古代传说，总体时态应选用一般过去时。
2.第1句中的“风筝不仅仅是……，而且还是……”可简单套用 not only... but also...的句式，翻译时采取增词法，译成 kites are not only seen as toys, but also...。译文处将本句处理为分号连接的并列句，“不仅仅是玩具”译成 more than toys 以突出风筝的重要性。
3.第2句中有两个分句，且没有连词连接，分别有两个谓语动词“以……而闻名”和“有……历史”，面对类似情况，选用其中一个作谓语，另一个处理为非谓语成分即可，这样比译成并列句更简洁。译文将“潍坊以‘风筝之都’而闻名”处理成非谓语，译成 Known as “Kite Capital of the World”。后半个分句“有将近 2,400 年放飞风筝的历史”中有两个定语“将近 2,400 年”和“放飞风筝”，这两个定语均可处理成 of 加名词的所有格形式修饰中心词“历史”。“放飞风筝”可翻译成名词形式 kite-flying，而不是翻译成动词短语 flying kites，前者更贴近英语的用词习惯。“风筝之都”可译为 Kite Capital of the World 或 World Capital of Kite。
4.第3句的主体信息实际上都是“传说”的内容，故套用 legend has it that...句型译出主体信息。“墨子用了三年时间在潍坊制作了世界上首个风筝”可译成 it took Mozi three years to make the first kite of the world in Weifang 或 Mozi spent three years making the first kite of the world。“中国古代哲学家墨子”可译成 the ancient Chinese philosopher Mozi 或 Mozi, an ancient Chinese philosopher，后者把“中国古代哲学家”处理成插入语。
5.第4句中的“也有人相信……”可以翻成 some people also believe that...或 it is also believed that...，译成被动语态更符合英语的表达习惯，“中国古代木匠鲁班”的译法与上一句的墨子类似，可译成 the ancient Chinese carpenter Lu Ban 或 Lu Ban, an ancient Chinese carpenter。
6.第5句动词较多，若全部译成谓语动词，太多并列句会导致句子松散拖沓，故“他的风筝用木头和竹子制作”不必译成 his kite was made of wood and bamboo，而是把“用木头和竹子制作”翻译成过去分词短语，作插入语，可译成 his kite, made of wood and bamboo。“飞了三天后才落地”中的“才”可译成 before，符合地道的英文表达方式。“飞了三天”在翻译时可采取增词法，译成 had been flying in the sky for three days。
