Prince William who is second in line to the British throne is backing an initiative called “football remembers” which will commemorate the Christmas truce of the first World War. It's brought together the Premier League, the Football League, the FA and the British Council to mark what they are calling one of the most iconic moments of the war when it is said that football replaced fighting during the festive period in Flanders. Peter Hunt reports.

It has been described by one historian as “a tremendous display of humanity”, unplanned and unexpected in many places on the western front. British and German soldiers with the day before had been trying to kill each other left trenches to exchange gifts in no man's land and to bury their dead.
