China has launched a series of military operations near the Taiwan island in response to Pelosi's visit.

Beginning on Tuesday night, the Eastern Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army has staged a joint air and sea drills to the north, southwest and southeast of the island.

Officials say will also conduct a long-range live-fire drills in the Taiwan Strait and conventional missile tests in the waters off the eastern coast of the island.
